Visual Climate Center

Science On a Sphere is a dynamic animated globe, colloquially called "The Globe" that uses an advanced technology to visualize images of the atmosphere, the oceans and the continents, the moon and the solar system, as well as it tells and shows – in a very plain and thoughtful way – how the world is changing due to the climate.

Data for Science On a Sphere is provided by NOAA and NASA and are updated weekly. The Globe can display a myriad of data; we have over 800 datasets, right from water levels in the past, present and in the future to Facebook's interactions for example.

“Knowledge about climate changes can be difficult to transmit. The substance can be a little unclear to relate to, which is why some of the most important is: visualization”

- Jesper Theilgaard, Danish Meteorologist

LIVE PROGRAMS AND SIMULATIONS

Get an insight into the earth's changes from 19,000 BC to 10,000 AD. From the peak of the Weichsel glaciation to the present - and into a simulation of the melting of the ice in the future, the rise of the sea level and so on. Or see how the melting of the ice at the poles will continue by the year 2100.

On the Globe we can show live programs and simulations of all sorts of scenarios.

LEARN ABOUT EVERYTHING RIGHT FROM THE MILKY WAY TO THE AGE OF THE SEA BED

On the Globe, the data becomes alive and understandable. You don't just find information about the climate changes. You can also keep track of how many people interact on Facebook, where the most electricity is being used, or how the moon looks like. There are more than 800 datasets, each showing a brand new angle of our planet.

WHO CAN USE THE GLOBE

School groups, researchers, associations, companies, groups ... The Globe can be used as a tool to support climate and environmental education at all levels. It can be used for visual communication of national and international climate research - past, present and future. But it can also be used by private citizens. The Globe can visualize the earth in a way that is interesting for both children and adults.

"We've just been to a presentation with earthquakes as the theme. It was very exciting.  A skillful review, and the Globe is just an evocative and impressive communication tool. The children were engrossed, and so were"

GO IN GROUPS

Lolland offers a range of attractions.  Go on this trip where fun, highly topical issues about our climate and ecology, and good food are some of the subjects:

Visit Knuthenlund, one of Denmark's largest organic farms, with a nice shop; then on to Holeby to the unique, beautiful rooms in the old Højbygaard Paper Mill where we are ready to receive you with a delicious well-cooked lunch. After this, you'll have an hour long presentation of the Visual Climate Center's animated Globe: Science On a Sphere. In here, topics related to our climate will be visualized in a way so the context is easily seen, for instance the way we use our resources and what consequence is has to the world, to Denmark and not least to Lolland. After this, you continue to the pumping station in Kramnitse, where you'll be served coffee and cake, or you can visit the information center at Fehmarn Belt.
